Bio DD HW. :)

REMINDERS - For all problems, show your complete soultions [including all parental genotypes, GR and PR (if applicable)]. Write down all possible answers.

1. A husband and wife have normal vision, although both of their fathers are red-green colorblind, which is inherited as an X-linked recessive condition. What is the probability that their first child will be:

a) normal son?
b) normal daughter?
c) colorblind son?
d) colorblind daughter?

2. In cats, yellow coat color is determined by the b allele and black coat color by the B allele. The heterozygous condition results in a color known as tortoise-shell. These genes are X-linked.

a) What kind of offspring (and in what ratio) would be expected from a cross of black male and a tortoise-shell female?
b) What would be the chances of getting a tortoise-shell male?

3. A couple are both phenotypically normal but their son suffers from hemophilia, a sex-linked recessive disorder.

a) What fraction of their children are likely to suffer from hemophilia?
b) What fraction of their children are likely to be carriers?

4. In fruit flies, an X-linked dominant allele produces red eyes while its recessive counterpart gives them white eyes.

a) If a white eyed male reproduces with a homozygous red-eyed female, what phenotypic ratio is expected from their offspring?
b) If a white-eyed female reproduces with a red-eyed male, what phenotypic ratio is expected from their offspring?

NDD BIOLOGY

Homework to be passed on monday (feb.4)
Answer on a size 1 (1 whole). You decide if you want to copy and answer or not :D

1.) In snapdragons, red flower color is incompletely dominant over white flower color; the heterozygouys plants have pink flowers.

a. If a red-flowered plant is crossed with a white-flowered plant, what are the genotypes and phenotypes of the plants of the F1 generation?

b. What genotypes and phenotypes can be produced in the F2 generation?

c. What kinds of offspring can be produced if a red-flowered plant is crossed with a pink flowered plant?

d. What kinds of offspring can be produced if a pink-flowered plant is crossed with a white-flowered plant?

2) Radishes may have any of three shapes: long, spherical, or oval. Crosses of long x spherical always produce an F1 consisting only of oval radishes. If long radishes are crossed with oval radishes, what is the resulting PR of the progeny?

3) In cattle and horses, reddish coat color is not completely dominant to white color coat. Heterozygous animals have a mixture of reddish-color and white hairs, which is called roan. If you saw a white mare nursing a roan foal,

a. What would you guess was the coat color of the foal’s father?
b. Is there a chance to develop a pure line roan?
c. Illustrate a cross that will have a 50-50 chance of having a foal with either a reddish or roan coat color.

4) Among the many antigenic substances that may occur on human red blood cells are two, known as M and N. Individual’s phenotypes are referred to as M, N, or MN, depending on which antigen or antigens they produce (one, the other, or both). In any case of an M father and N mother, children are always MN. Give the resulting PR when an MN individual marries an N individual? M individual?

FILIPINO

Read the next chapter in F&L. Answer the Alamin part.

ENGLISH

Submit a detailed minutes of your meeting next monday.
